Welcome to my new grandson

Louis Alexander Nemeth entered the world on Wednesday January 29th at 12.22pm, weighing in at 3.42kg. As a very proud first time granny, I can only marvel that the birth of a baby, so everyday and commonplace, still manages to transcend the mundane and allows all those in close (and not so close) proximity to experience exquisite delight and great highs of emotion!

Louis' birth time makes him an Aquarian with an Aries Ascendant - a free spirit, individualist, maybe a bit off-beat? He and I will really hit it off! He's a Snake, missing being a Horse by just a few days. For his entire generation, this is a period of intense change in the very fabric of society, when many accepted institutions may pass away or be born anew.

But most important, his whole family has anticipated and longed for his safe and healthy arrival and his two amazing and devoted parents have worked hard to ensure that. He will go forward into the world, well-equipped to deal with its challenges. If only I could say the same for all the children of his generation
Welcome to your earth home little grandson!

The edition they couldn't ban

Just a quick link to your free online copy of What Doctors Don't Tell You - this is the edition that they couldn't ban from newsagents' shelves (and that's a story in itself). But more to the point, a very informative article looks beyond surgery, radiation and chemotherapy as cancer "cures" and explores the success rates and survival times of non-invasive therapies. An absolute must-read! No wonder the docs tried to suppress it - when the success rate of invasive orthodox treatment is static at 12 percent, the so-called "war on cancer" is definitely lost. Trouble is, while the war is lost and the dead and wounded are all around us, the battle is being won by Big Pharma, who are laughing all the way to the bank!

Brains misbehaving...or are they?

Big Pharma would certainly have us believe that many human emotions, depression the most notable amongst them, are completely amenable to pharmaceutical manipulation. End result - potential for a lifetime of drugs that do more harm than good!

I’m now quoting verbatim from Dr. Kelly Brogan - board certified in the US in Psychiatry/Psychosomatic Medicine/Reproductive Psychiatry and Integrative Holistic Medicine. I recommend Dr. Brogan’s article in full.

“What are these medications actually doing?!  The truth is, we have very little idea. We like to cling to simple explanations, but even the name of the various antidepressants, selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors and norepinephrine re-uptake inhibitors is misleading. They are far from selective.  An important analysis by the former director of the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) claimed that antidepressants "create perturbations in neurotransmitter functions" causing the body to compensate through a series of compensatory adaptations which occur after "chronic administration" leading to brains that function, after a few weeks, in a way that is "qualitatively as well as quantitatively different from the normal state."

So forget anti-depressant medication, instead try the following
  • restful sleep: get rid of EMR from your bedroom
  • exposure to sunshine:10-15 minutes daily between 10am-2pm (expose 40 percent of your skin area)
  • whole foods: healthy food grown on healthy soil, fresh and in season
  • avoid: stimulants, alcohol, refined foods, sugar-laden foods, chemical-laden foods
  • hydrate: plenty of high quality purified water (2 litres daily)
  • exercise: muscle building and aerobic (at least 40 minutes daily)
  • meditate: studies show it is every bit as good as those dubious drugs!

The above initiatives, undertaken together, seriously and regularly will lift your spirits, but in the event that "the blues" linger or the "black dog" still bites, look to Thomas Moore “Care of the Soul”. Then ask yourself if maybe, just maybe, a period of less than joyful enthusiasm for life might actually be part of the mysterious, remarkable journey that for all of us will have its ups and downs, its highs and lows and was most certainly never designed to be a never-ending pleasure cruise.

Another reason to get out in the sun

It’s hard to reconcile the latest Skin Cancer campaign running on Australian TV with the volumes of vitamin D research. The theme of the campaign, which is aimed at the younger generation, goes something like this ... “you know what to do” - be the generation that beats skin cancer.” In other words, avoid sun exposure, cover up, use high strength sunscreens and so forth, but as I’ve said before the research now links vitamin D deficiency to a number of chronic conditions. More to the point, deficiency now affects about one third of Australians which is an unconscionable fact given that the majority of the population live at latitudes where daily sun exposure would produce vitamin D in sufficient quantities to protect against cancer, diabetes and more.

Now research also suggests that mothers with higher vitamin D levels during pregnancy have stronger children. Greater muscle strength and improved muscle mass might not seem like such a big deal, but extrapolate better body composition down the years to an elderly adult who is less likely to fall or suffer other conditions associated with loss of muscle mass in old age.

For a continuing appropriate relationship between your skin and the sun...
Ensure it’s a clear day without pollution
Minimize UVA while allowing UVB
10-15 minutes exposure/day between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm
Expose 40 percent of skin area
If this isn’t possible, use oral supplements of D3 to achieve 40-60ng/ml (100-150nMols/L)
RULE OF THUMB: For every 100IU ingested, there is increase of 1ng/ml

PREGNANCY DOSE: 4,000IU/day
BREASTFEEDING DOSE: 6,000IU/day

When the news is no longer the news

Watched a great DVD last night, a movie I’ve seen before but easy to revisit stellar performances from Al Pacino as Lowell Bergman, producer of CBS’s “60 minutes” and Russell Crowe as Dr. Jeffrey Wigand, who in 1995 famously blew the whistle on Big Tobacco. A timely reminder of the power that big companies and institutions have to suppress information that doesn’t suit them!

That was followed today by this account of fanfare and hoohaa surrounding GM-breakthroughs that were actually nothing more than fanfare and hoohaa. Read the article for all the details and as the article states, “The problem is summed up by newspaper man Lord Northcliffe as: ‘News is what people do not want you to print. All the rest is advertising.’"

Happily, there are now many ways to look behind the curtain to see what's really going on - so don't be afraid to take a peek!

UK Government to challenge Monsanto

The UK Government has confirmed that it will file a challenge to the European Commission’s approval of Monsanto’s application to sell a variety of its GM-soy in Europe.
The coalition of influential environmental groups states that the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has failed to comply with all the safety checks as required by law before backing the safety of the company’s GM (Intacta) soybeans for use in food and feed.

The reasons given for the challenge include (1) the conclusion that this soybean can be regarded as equivalent with soybeans from conventional breeding (2) there has been no investigation of combinatorial effects (3) flawed examination of allergenic risks and (4) there is no obligation for monitoring health effects at the stage of consumption.

In July Monsanto said it would withdraw pending applications for cultivation of four GM crops in the EU as they “were going nowhere fast.” Meanwhile millions of tons of GM crops are imported into the EU for use as animal feed, so wherever you live, you must read the labels, buy organic and support the non-GM movement!
